Friends: The Reunion – the most anticipated on-screen gathering of the world’s favorite group of friends – Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Mathew Perry, and David Schwimmer – premiered on HBO Max on May 27, 2021, after a tremendous amount of delay and speculation. But when it did, we and millions of other fans of the show were elated just to catch a glimpse of the six people who made us laugh for a good 10 years (well technically, they never stopped, right?).
It was a moment of nostalgia to see those beautiful faces back on the same couch sipping coffee and having their leisure time at Monica's apartment. The 104-minute reunion had a lot in the box for its loyal fans. From quizzes to script reading, from a goofy fashion show to a hilarious Q&A session, it was crazy and endearing as always. But probably the best part was the gust of feelings that hit everyone as they walked down memory lane 17 years after the show officially ended.
So, watsay we relive those precious moments from the show and ponder on a few secrets the cast revealed? Do keep a tissue box handy, you might need it!
The messed up monkey
Remember Ross's pet monkey, Marcel? The hairy primitive who appeared in the early seasons of the show? Despite what the show depicted, Schwimmer revealed on the reunion that he and the monkey didn't bond that well; in fact, the actor never liked working with the pet. The animal was a complete mess on the sets; he used to climb on the ceiling and never hit his marks. Well, now we know why Marcel didn't last that long on the show.
Joey’s dangerous leap
We’re sure die-hard fans remember the episode "the one where no one is ready'' from season 3. It was beyond hilarious to see Chandler and Joey fighting for the couch. But did you know LeBlanc got severely injured when shooting for the scene where Joey is supposed to dive into the couch as Chandler approaches?
The poor actor ended up dislocating his shoulder, and soon after, he was whisked off by paramedics to the hospital, which resulted in an abrupt halt in the shoot. Considering that the injury would’ve been hard to present in the storyline, the writers did their magic in the next episode where Joey was shown having a broken arm from jumping on the bed. LOL!
The ‘Mondler’ that wasn’t supposed to happen
The Monica-Chandler London hook-up was initially supposed to be a one-time thing. But when the episode aired, that little twist got such a massive positive response from the studio audience that it made the writers realize that the Mondler angle was worth exploring. And as they say, the rest is history!
The off-screen romance between Ross and Rachel
What if we say that Jennifer and David could have been each other's lobsters in the 3D? Interesting, ain't it? In a very warm moment during the episode, the co-stars revealed that they had a huge crush on each other in the show's early days, and they even used to cuddle on the couch in between takes. Won’t real-life Ross and Rachel be amazing?
As ''F.R.I.E.N.D.S'' fans, these little memories that stirred up post the reunion were the perfect antidote to our pandemic boredom. What was your favorite scene from the reunion?
